Activities 2018
During 2018 the program organized two workshops. A holistic framework to understand sustainable pastoralism at the global scale was defined. Indicators to assess sustainability of pastoralism across time scales and disciplines were listed. This yielded a draft for a perspective paper to be submitted in 2019 presenting this novel approach. At the same time, potential future collaborators and funding was identified. A roadmap toward securing major funding to implement the proposed framework was decided. This included the drafting of two different concept notes: One more academic, centered in the exercise of understanding pastoralism globally, and another one emphasizing the policy relevance and applied aspects gained from such a proposed framework. Small funding was obtained from several sources to cover costs of the group meetings.
We are planning to finish the perspective manuscript presenting the interdisciplinary approach, and submitting it to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA (PNAS).
We are planning to have a session on the Pastoralism initiative during the General Assembly this summer in Oslo, to present and discuss the work we have been doing and our future plans.
