25th International Diatom Symposium

At the 25th International Diatom Symposium were 212 participants from 43 countries of all five continents took part, 58 were students: 135 participants from 26 countries in Europe, 40 participants from the Americas, 31 participants from Asia, 4 participants from Africa, 1 participants from Australia.

6 Keynote-talks, 83 talks in 15 sessions, 4 workshops and 100 posters were presented. Topics were:

Taxonomy & Phylogeny (4 sessions)
Freshwater Biodiversity (2 sessions)
Bioindication (3 sessions)
Marine & Brackish Biodiversity (2 sessions)
Paleoclimatology (2 sessions)
Names & Collections (1 session)
Environmental DNA & High Throughput Sequencing (eDNA & HTS (1 session)
An important topic was the new International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants (ICNafp) 2018, which had just been published.

Salinas-Camarillo, Victor Hugo; Carmona-Jiménez, Javier & Lobo, Eduardo A.: Diatoms as indicators of ecological quality in the rivers of the Basin of Mexico (Cuenca de México).
