IUBS 30th
General Assembly
The IUBS 29th
General Assembly approved the recommendation of the Ad Hoc Committee on the 30th
General Assembly to accept the invitation of the South African Committee for Biological Sciences to host the next IUBS General Assembly, in November 2009, in Cape Town, South-Africa.
Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on the IUBS 30th General
Assembly
- There
were three bids received to hold the GA30th; China,
India,
South-Africa.
- The
committee took into consideration the list of GAs
held in the past and tried to do justice to geographic representation.Twenty-two
GAs were held in Europe, three in North-America,
two in Asia, one in the Arab States, one in Australia, and none in
South-America or sub-Saharan Africa. The balance between the Northern and
Southern Hemisphere is twenty-one to two.
- In
the light of the fact that the GA of 1997 was in Asia
and to try and balance North and South a little
bit the committee recommends to have the next GA in South-Africa and
warmly welcomes the excellent proposal.
- The
committee proposes to the Assembly to acknowledge their appreciation to
the IUBS committees in India
and China
and to thank them for their willingness to promote IUBS goals and
activities.
- In
their planning for the 30th General Assembly the committee encourages the
local organizing Committee in South-Africa to promote active participation
of young scientists.
